You have to try it. As a somewhat picky person (you can’t eat everyone’s food) this place was fantastic. Extremely reasonably priced and honestly pretty cheap for the amount of food you get. My family of 4 shared 3 small platters and 4 empanadas. We took an entire platter home lol. Food was *CHEFS KISS* The family friendly atmosphere playing great music was wonderful. The employees and ownership are just awesome awesome people and were an absolute pleasure to meet and talk with while we were there. The juices were on point and the TRES LECHES CAKE. Out of this world. Rice and beans all on point. Pollo guisado, pernil & chuleta!!! no dry meats over here. Highly recommend. You won’t be disappointed. Great family. Great establishment. Can’t wait for the next visit. !

I've been to El Gordo several times. It never disappoints! The Shrimp Mofongo on Ash Wednesday was amazing! Such a big portion too. The empanadas are always great as well. It's so nice to see this business thriving in our town.

Looking for super freshly prepared Puerto Rican comfort food? El Gordo Coqui has opened at the New Jersey Shore, located in Bayville New Jersey The owner Antony and his lovey wife prepare some of the best empanadas I’ve had in a long time. They offer a nice selection of different fillings such as Philly Cheesesteak, pepper and onions , beef etc. The owner Antony told me the menu will be expanded in the coming weeks. This restaurant is brand new and I’m excited on what the new menu they will be offering

Stopped by with the wife for lunch today we wanted to give it a try and get some empanadas to go. Wasn't really sure what to expect. But let me say we were both really suprised and delighted by the food. We got pernil, beef and the chicken flavor. Now my wife is Puerto Rican and even she was impressed with the pernil ones. The pork was well seasoned and moist throughout. The empanadas were filled too. We have gotten empanadas from other places before and were disappointed by how much filling there actually was. Not here!! They were packed full of meat. Making the 4.50 price worth it. They were out of 2 flavors that we actually wanted to try so we will have to go back and see if we can get those another day. The only room for improvement would be the sauces. Having to pay for sauce then getting a dinky little cup was a little annoying. Will definitely be grabbing some more empanadas another day. 5 empanadas 1 yuca fries 1 sauce 30

The food was savory, hearty, and authentic. The pina colada was sweet and paired very well with the beef empanadas. The yuca fries were soft and well cooked. 9/10, would recommend. Very good
